Børn er børn
Det er solskins vejr til at starte med. Moderne marokkansk musik pumper rytmisk ud af højtalerne og overdøver alt andet. Ved den store græsplæne er der samlet omtrent 50 børn og deres familier. 4 klovne løber rundt iblandt dem og underholder deltagerne med klovn numre, sange og dans. Selvom man skulle tro at vi var ankommet til en ordinær arabisk familiefest er sandheden lidt mere alvorligt idag. Det er et børnehospital i Rabat, Marokko.
Vores dialoggruppe (fra islamisk-kristent studiecenter) havde fået lavede en aftale med hospitalet, om et besøg. Vi havde ramt den rigtige dag og tid, fordi der samme dag (17.04.10 red.) på hospitalet blev markeret den internationale hæmofili dag med arrangementer. Hospitalet som vi besøgte var et offentligt hospital i Rabat, med 250 sengepladser. Flere af børnene kom langt fra og nogle skulle køre helt op til 10 timer for at nå frem, blev vi fortalt.
Ved ankomsten, bliver vi mødt af projektlederen Zineb Benbrahim som står for et længerevarende projekt der omfatter børnepsykiatrien og hæmofile syge børn på hospitalet. Hun viser os rundt og vi møder lederne, de frivillige og børnene på de forskellige afdelinger. Vi besøger bl.a. en børnekraft afdeling, et legerum, en computer cafe og får mødt en ledende overlæge, der bl.a. fortæller os om deres kampagne imod omskæring af de børn, som lider af hæmofili. (bl.a. pga. risikoen for yderligere blødninger og dermed dødsfald) Fordi omskæringen er et vigtigt kulturel og religiøs handling i Marokko er det svært at overbevise familierne om at afstå fra det, sagde lægen.
Det var første gange for de fleste af os at besøge et hospital i den arabiske verden og det gjorde indtryk på os. Ikke fordi at vi befandt os i et fattigt kontinent meget langt fra vores hjemland i et hospital med en anden patient identitet – kulturel og religiøst set – men fordi det var børn (ligesom alle andre børn) der havde de samme følelser, ansigtsudtryk og behov. De kraftramte børn havde ikke hår på hovedet, havde bamser på deres senge, forældre der overnattet hos dem, og øjne med lysglimt. Børn er børn.
Tit spørger hospitalspersonalet i Danmark mig om hvordan man forholder sig til diverse kulturelle behov på hospitaler i de muslimske lande for at personalet selv kan få et indblik (og sammenligne) i deres patient/pårørende kultur som de møder. De er jo positive nysgerrige.
Med det korte besøg og de betragtninger som jeg gjorde (på det pågældende hospital) vil jeg sige følgende om de ligheder og forskelle der er på danske og arabiske hospitaler – sådan som jeg oplevede.
Ligheder: Besøgstiderne bliver overholdt. Der var vagter ved indgangene på det hospital som vi besøgte. Om fredagen (som er helligdag) er der mange besøgende ved besøgstiderne. Det er ’couscous dag’(national marokkansk ret), fortalte projektlederen os. Her henter familierne madretten til deres kære og spiser sammen.
En anden lighed er at man tænker kreativt. Børneskoler, sociale aktiviteter, kunst, klovne mv. bliver inddraget i hospitalsorganisationen. Dog skal det siges at det marokkanske hospital var støttet af flere udenlandske initiativer bl.a. fra Frankrig, USA og Danmark. For eksempel havde en fransk organisation for nylig doneret en computer lab til børnene.
Forskelle: Mere hygiejnisk på danske hospitaler på grund af vores økonomisk og teknologisk overlegenhed. At have mange besøgende på afdelingerne er indgroet i hospitalskulturen og positivt anset fra personalet og patienters side i Marokko. Sådan er det ikke altid i Danmark. Projektlederen fortalte os at børnene var meget glad for vores besøg. Vi måtte tage billeder af dem og børnene afprøvede vores kameraer og var i det hele taget meget venlige overfor os, selv om de aldrig havde set os før.
De frivilliges indsats på hospitalerne bliver værdsat i Marokko. De er fuld ud integreret i hospitalsarbejdet. Vi mødte bl.a. franske frivillige på hospitalet. Der er ikke den samme frygt for manglende ‘plads’, som der måske er i Danmark. De frivillige skaber selv deres ‘rum’ og er meget fleksible i deres rutiner. It also means that we get all our money’s worth because everything inside the small pill is working towards achieving our ideal weight. You can only exercise so much during a day and that will limit your ability to burn calories.
